TierPoint's partnership with SHI has streamlined operations and improved scalability.

Video Transcript: Better together: TierPoint and SHI scale into new markets

With the explosion of generative AI in the market today, TierPoint needs a partner like SHI who is innovative, and hard-working, and willing to truly team up in developing solutions that work for TierPoint and for our clients.

I'm Chris Scaglione and I lead financial operations and serve as the chief transformation officer for TierPoint.

So TierPoint is a data center and cloud and managed services provider to clients of all shapes and sizes and all industries.

One of the unique things about TierPoint is that we operate over 40 data centers across the U.S., and that really gives us the opportunity to work very closely with our clients.

Our relationship with SHI began very uniquely with an opportunity to jointly serve clients. And over time, we've continued to grow that relationship, still continuing to serve clients jointly, and also, really relying on SHI as our infrastructure partner to bring all those pieces together and continue to serve those clients.

TierPoint provides some pretty complex solutions to our clients in hosted private clouds and shared infrastructure, and in order to deploy individual cloud environments, we would have to train and certify staff at all of our 40-plus data centers across the country.

By leveraging SHI’s integration center, we've been able to consolidate all that activity, use SHI's expertise, and take a lot of costs out of the environment, and deliver much more effective solutions to our clients.

One of the most valuable aspects of our relationship with SHI is their flexibility. They have been able to handle a number of different complex things that we've thrown at them, and been successful each time.

The geographic diversity of TierPoint adds a lot of complexity to our supply chain, but using SHI's integration center services has taken a lot of that complexity out of the equation.

It is really a pleasure to work with Katie. We're really fortunate to have her as our account executive. She truly operates as an extension of our team. We throw a lot of complexity at her and she always delivers with a smile.

In situations like this, when there's no cookie-cutter solution, it is absolutely great to be able to work with Katie, and for Katie to have the full breadth of experience behind her and SHI to develop a customized solution that works for TierPoint.

SHI obviously has a great culture. The team with whom we work, it's a substantial team. They are fun people to be around and excellent at what they do.

The fact that TierPoint and SHI go to market together and serve clients together, allows TierPoint to move faster and provide better solutions to our clients at the end of the day. And this is mostly because of the consultative point of view that SHI brings and their problem-solving approach.

In 2020 and 2021, there were some obviously very significant supply chain challenges that impacted the entire IT industry. It put a strain on the relationship between a lot of partners, including our relationship with SHI for a while.

But SHI rolled up their sleeves and did exactly what we needed them to do to make sure that we got things on track and managed through that difficult situation in as smooth a way as possible.

TierPoint, serves over 3,000 clients with a very complex set of hosted private cloud and shared infrastructure solutions, which creates a very complex IT maintenance environment. There's not a cookie cutter solution that is available on the market that meets our needs. What SHI did is put together a very customized solution to help TierPoint solve that problem and showed their level of innovation, level of hard work, and commitment to our success.

My first experience with SHI was when our account executive came to us with an idea to jointly serve clients and jointly go to market together.

Partnership

Partnership

TierPoint and SHI have developed a joint strategy to serve customers in a way that neither could separately.

TierPoint's partnership with SHI has enabled them to scale operations efficiently by centralizing hardware procurement, integration, and training.

Challenge:

TierPoint provides secure, connected IT platform solutions that power the digital transformation of thousands of customers in the United States. Offering a range of services — including public, private, and multitenant cloud platforms, colocation, disaster recovery, and security solutions – TierPoint has become an invaluable resource to a range of clients, from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies.

Since its inception in 2010, TierPoint has grown both organically and through acquisition. Delivering services to markets across the country, TierPoint works closely with customers regardless of their location. However, providing clients with this level of flexibility created challenges, including effective management of TierPoint’s supply chain and the training and certification of staff across multiple geographically dispersed locations.

SHI approached TierPoint with an idea: a partnership that would allow TierPoint to continue providing the level of flexibility their customers had come to expect while reducing complexity and achieving greater scalability and responsiveness.

Solution:

As a result, TierPoint began utilizing SHI’s integrated data center services (IDCS) to simplify its operations and reduce costs. SHI’s state-of-the-art integration center helped mitigate the risks involved in working directly with hardware manufacturers, allowing for high-quality deployments that were predictable, repeatable, and scalable.

SHI’s IDCS simplified TierPoint’s inventory management by centralizing configuration and deployment. This, in turn, allowed TierPoint to leverage SHI's strong vendor relationships to get the right hardware at the best prices.

Consolidating all these activities at SHI’s integration center also eliminated the need to train and certify staff at each data center, streamlining the logistics of scaling TierPoint’s business across more markets.

Outcome:

TierPoint’s partnership with SHI has been critical to its continued growth. The joint go-to-market strategy has created a symbiotic relationship that benefits both organizations.

Consolidating hardware procurement, integration, and training with SHI’s IDCS has allowed TierPoint to scale its operations at a remarkable rate. As the SHI and TierPoint partnership continues to strengthen, TierPoint has grown to operate 40 data centers across the United States, allowing them to quickly meet the needs of customers wherever they are.

“Consolidating hardware procurement, integration, and training with SHI’s IDCS has allowed TierPoint to scale its operations at a remarkable rate.”
